Ascension day service

Today we all gathered together to celebrate Ascension at church. It was another part of our week of celebrations, that this time focused on Jesus' ascension into heaven and the promises that he gave, not only to his disciples, but to all of us.

It was great to welcome at the service our two new children's workers that have joined the St John's team and to have them challenge us to believe what we can not always see in a very creative way.

That creativity involved being dared to place your hand into a bowl of gunk, in the faith that there would be good things in there. The link being that although we cannot see Jesus, we can be confident of his love for us, his presence with us in our daily lives and the promises that he has given us. All good things to celebrate!

We also thought about the Archbishop of Canterbury's call to prayer next week and each of the children and those present were given a prayer leaf, all of which the children will be encouraged to write something on and place on our prayer tree that has appeared overnight in our main corridor.

As ever we had fantastic readings and prayers from our key stage one and two classes, with even some dramatic re-enactment by 4K. As well as our school orchestra playing us both in and out of church.

A very special morning for all of us.
