FS2 new arrivals

Lots of children have started in FS2 but we also have some new pets. Rosie and Pippa are Guinea Pigs, we are learning how to look after them. We know we need to keep them clean, give them gentle hugs, provide healthy food & clean water,  and let them have playtime and quiet time just like us.

The history of the olympics in 6M

6M were focusing on the history of the Olympics in their session this morning, exploring the links between what we have been observing on our TV screens over the past few weeks and the origins of the competition in Ancient Greece.

Lots of good knowledge retained from the year 5 topic on Greece last year was contributed to the dicussion, as well as great enthusiasm for the success of team GB both in the Olympics and the Paralympics.  Some real experts in the class on a wide range of Olympic sports were clearly evident.

Mrs M and I even shared our own personal reflections on attempting the shot at secondary school a number of years ago, it never seemed to go that far!

Outside of class 6M there is a wonderful display of self portraits that have caught the eye of everyone that has walked down the corridor recently. I wonder if you can identify the pupils?

Class 6S and the Olympics

I had a very enjoyable time visiting 6S today as they were learning more about a wide range of Olympic sports. The first challenge was to name as many sports that are part of the modern day olympics using the alphabet - that certainly got us all thinking!

Next it was all about investigating a specific sport, finding out new facts to build up a knowledge bank to support the writing focus of the morning. We were all suprised by how long some sports have been a part of the Olympics and ones that we take for granted being relatively new.

Of course it was impossible to discuss any sport without refering to team GB's recent success in Rio. Gold medals in so many sports and some amazing acheivements to be proud of.

I was also intrigued by the pictures of the class's idea of a perfect teacher that were displayed on the working wall. Not sure who their inspiration was for the portraits but they were certainly entertaining!
